Results: Creator Academy and CA_MainHall each reached 3M visits, with over 167K and 253K hours spent, respectively. Creation 101 saw 675K visits with 115K hours spent, while Art Tutorials had 431K visits and 41K hours spent. This Room Tutorials reached 100K visits with nearly 6K hours spent, Circuits Tutorials had 604K visits with 37K hours spent, and Design Tutorials saw 116K visits with 33K hours spent.

Release: December 15, 2022 – 2023

Led a team of internal staff creators and collaborated closely with developers, the art team, and marketing to design a virtual space where creators of all skill levels—new to expert—can learn and improve their creative skills. We developed a virtual academy that guides creators on their journey to success in creation tools and game design best practices. This academy is prominently accessible to all creators. Each tutorial within the virtual room experiences includes step-by-step guides with short, easily digestible videos. These allow creators to pause, resume, and progress at their own pace, effectively teaching everything from basic creation techniques to advanced design and performance optimization practices.

Process

Our goal was to make each course fun, inspiring, and focused on teaching best practices. We aimed to keep the courses as short as possible, especially the introductory ones. We began by listing the courses we wanted to create immediately, as well as those we might develop in the future, ensuring the space was designed to be flexible, adaptable, and easy to update to meet the needs of our internal staff.

We worked closely with the artists on the art team to establish a cohesive branding theme and created simple assets that could be manipulated using our in-game tool, the "Maker Pen," as well as our new "Rec Room Studio" creation tool. This approach allowed us to quickly create multiple spaces with consistent branding, themes, learning interactions, and virtual wayfinding.

Led the production of 16 tutorial experiences from concept to completion, managing every phase of the project, including drafting, iteration, and final delivery. In addition, designed and launched two key rooms: one introducing the Creator Academy and another serving as a central hub to showcase all virtual tutorials.

Took ownership of the tutorial production theme, layout, video content, walkthrough scripting, and planning. Coordinated a significant effort over the course of a quarter, ensuring the project was completed on time and met quality standards.

This was a collaborative, cross-team initiative involving multiple stakeholders, with my leadership driving the alignment and success of the overall vision.
