Link buttons are a valuable feature for showcasing creation content to players exploring virtual experiences. Rather than just displaying content on the experience detail page, these quick links immediately grab players' attention, offering creators the opportunity to highlight content such as profiles, other virtual experiences (rooms), events, creative inventions, and clubs. This makes it easier for players to connect with content directly where they are socializing or playing.
The Problem
During this time, we were working on a club feature that allows players to create groups for their fans, teams, studios, and friends. While clubs could link to a virtual experience representing their community, the issue was that it was difficult for players to understand what the club offered. Key information, such as displayed events, owner details, and available creations or virtual experiences, was unclear. It often felt like walking into an empty room, where players didn’t even realize it was a club.
Design Solution
To address this, we aimed to establish a connection between the content on the club details page and the club’s virtual experiences (Rooms). This would allow players who became members or set the space as their spawn point to quickly see what’s happening in the club—such as upcoming virtual events, newly released virtual experiences, featured club members, top players in recent creative experiences, and the club’s latest inventions.
Although I primarily designed this feature for clubs, it can be used beyond just clubs. Link buttons can be connected to player profiles, events, Rooms, inventions, and clubs.
Measure Success
Increase in visibility: Creators saw an increase in room visibility, inventions sold, and event attendance from players visiting their rooms.
Increase in subscriptions: We saw an increase in player subscriptions and club memberships.
Link buttons can be found in nearly every room in Rec Room today! :)
